There is a large population of retired government employees and pensioners in India who depend on timely pension payments for their livelihood. It was once necessary for senior citizens to deliver their Life Certificates in person to their bank or pension disbursement agency on a yearly basis-a time-consuming and sometimes challenging process. Under Jeevan Pramaan, the Government of India implemented the Digital Life Certificate system in recognition of the need for a more convenient system.
Technology not only simplifies the process, but also aligns with the Digital India initiative. In this blog, you will get the complete concept, registration process, benefits, eligibility, technical requirements, and everything else you need to know about the Digital Life Certificate.
Digital Life Certificate also known as “Jeevan Pramaan Patra” which is an electronic version of the traditional physical life certificate. This certificate is submitted annually by the pensioners to their respective PDAs (Pension Disbursing Agencies). Digital Life Certificate serves as a proof that the pensioner is alive which helps to continue pension disbursal. It is a great initiative launched by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology on 10th November, 2014. Its primary objective is to avoid the need of pensioners to be physically present for the certificate submission.

If any pensioner is not able to handle this digital work on their own they can also visit their nearest Jeevan Pramaan Centre. There, the officials will collect pensioner biometric data and submit the Digital Life Certificate on your behalf.
The Digital Life Certificate mainly validates for only one year from the issuing date. Once this validity expires, the pensioners need to resubmit this once every year, mainly in November. Some may accept it later or earlier. It totally depends on the pension disbursing agency. The pensioners must confirm with their respective agency.
Digital Life certificate plays a crucial role for the agency to identify the alive pensioner and provide the exact pension to the liable pensioners. With biometric authentication, digital connectivity, and Aadhaar integration, the Government of India ensures pensions are safe, fast, and reliable. In the coming years, Jeevan Pramaan is likely to become the standard for pension verification as more people become aware of it and infrastructure expands.
